Q 1   I registered for full time Ph.D in 2013, now I want to convert this to part time Ph.D ?
Ans: You need to write a letter to the Registrar –VTU stating precise reason, why you have to move from full time Ph.D to Part time. You also need to take no objection certificate from your guide.  The entire process would take 1 to 3 week’s time from the date of receipt of required documents at VTU,Belagavi.

Q 2 My research title is “Solution to improve the electric drive control features” I want to change the title of my research topic to make it more specific. How do I get an approval from VTU to change the title?
Ans: Your guide has to write a letter to the Registrar, VTU stating reasons for change in the title. Once the letter is received at Registrar Office, the Registrar will constitute a committee to approve the change in title. Based on the committee observation the University would respond appropriately. This would take 4 to 6 weeks from the date of receipt of the letter at the Registrar’s office.
Q 3 What is the minimum and maximum time to take comprehensive Viva?
Q3a I enrolled for Ph.D in year 2011, but due to VTU procedural delay. I gave the first course work only in the month of August 2012 and next exam March 2013. I have not taken comprehensive viva. How to go about this?
Ans:  A candidate can appear for the comprehensive Viva within 6 months subsequent to completing the course work. Further,the candidate has to pay a stipulated fine for every year delay.

Q 5 My research supervisor changed the college. His present college is not a VTU Research centre. Do I have to change guide?
Ans: If you have registered under VTURRC/VTURC there is no need to change the guide.
Q5 a Earlier my research supervisor was working in the college which I had taken as the research centre. Now, he has left the college and moved to some other college. My question is “Could I continue with the same college as my research centre”, please answer me?
Ans: If registered under VTURC (Research Centre) then you need to change centre from VTURC to VTURRC by forwarding your application for change of centre to The Registrar  through your Guide and Principal  of VTURC.
Q 5b Is it possible to change Research Centre from VTU-RRC Belagavi to VTURC?
Ans: It is possible to change the Research Centre provided your guide is working in the same Research Centre. You need to write a request letter to the Registrar VTU stating reasons for the same and an NOC from the present supervisor for the change in research centre.
Q 6 I have registered as part time research scholar, I am hopeful to complete my research work in 3 years. Will I be awarded Ph.D degree after 3 years or do I have to wait for the stipulated duration that is 5 years?
Ans : You may submit after successful completion of the research work
Q 7 I registered during 2013-2014 and I have completed my course work during April – May 2014. I got my results during June 2014. The regulation given in VTU is after course work completion within six months we have to finish comprehensive viva. I have not given the comprehensive viva, because the “Research Methodology “workshop certificate is mandatory for comprehensive viva. Kindly help me (as per University norms my six months period got over).
Ans: Since you have not attended the Research Methodology workshop within 6 months after the completion of course work. You can still take the comprehensive viva by paying a stipulated fine to the University.
